Asia-Pacific is the hardest region to host for: it's vast, underwater cable routes dictate everything, and Western providers often treat it as an afterthought. The good news — a well-chosen server in Tokyo or Singapore covers the overwhelming majority of Asian users with excellent latency.
Tokyo or Singapore?
These two hubs split the region between them. Tokyo is the right anchor for Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan — expect 1–10 ms domestically and 30–50 ms to Seoul and Taipei. Singapore anchors Southeast Asia: 1–10 ms locally, 20–40 ms to Kuala Lumpur, Jakarta, and Bangkok, and 35–55 ms to Hong Kong. Between the two hubs themselves it's roughly 65–80 ms — so if you can only pick one, pick the hub closest to your largest audience, and add the second later if needed.

Three Asia-specific buying tips
- Test real routes, not distances. Cable paths matter more than kilometers in Asia — ping the provider's test IPs from your target markets before committing.
- Expect a location premium. Asian bandwidth costs more; 10–30% over EU/US pricing is normal, and dramatically discounted "Asia" servers are usually not actually in Asia.
- Mind China separately. Mainland China traffic is its own challenge (licensing, the GFW); a Tokyo or Singapore server helps but does not equal in-country hosting.
